A lot of people only consider cooking a chore. However, cooking can be an enjoyable activity. Cooking can also be one of the best ways to be a healthier person. As a first-rate cook always seeks to expand their skills, read on to gain some useful tips which can help you increase your knowledge and your enjoyment of cooking.
When cooking vegetables, cook them as quickly as possible to keep their nutritional value. If you cook your vegetables for a long period of time, they might not be as nutritious. Vegetables cooked in these ways make healthier side dishes and ingredients in recipes. It is worth it to take the time to use cooking methods that preserve the most nutrients.
Rising the dough requires patience and an optimal environment. Don't just leave the bowl with the dough where it's not in your way. Create farm to table near me to get the best results. Find a place with constant, warmer temperature without draft. Constantly changing temperature and draft makes the dough rise slowly and unevenly.
Since you are going to be using a lot of sharp knives in the kitchen to cook your meals, you will want to maintain precautions at all times. Instead of simply putting your knife in the drawer, make sure that you put a wine cork on the tip to protect against cuts and scrapes upon use.
Have you been making the same berry shortcake for a while? Make the flavor pop with the following tip. Mix your berries with a pinch of salt, a little fresh mint and a small spoon of lime juice. Your guests will never guess how you enhanced the flavor of the old family recipe.
If you have a family, you will want to implement a process for cleaning up after you cook your meal. This is very important as you will want to conserve the excess food that you do not eat for future servings. Post meal cleanup is just as important as pre-meal preparation.
Even the humble sandwich can benefit from a little cooking expertise. Mayonnaise, mustard and other condiments should be spread evenly from edge to edge of sandwich bread. This improves consistency and ensures that every bite of the sandwich gets the benefit of the condiments. Even spreading produces superior sandwich results every time.
Don't substitute romaine lettuce when making caesar salad. Romaine has the perfect texture and flavor to stand up to the strong ingredients in a classic caesar dressing, such as garlic, anchovies and parmesan cheese. Select romaine that has dark green outer leaves that curl away from the center. To store, leave the head whole and unwashed in http://member.thinkfree.com/myoffice/show.se?f=f2569ad652c997e920081bd1e20914f6 , and tear off leaves as needed.
Be sure to refresh your spices every few months. If you keep them longer than this, they may lose their flavor. If you have spices that you don't intend to use any time soon, give it as a gift to someone who will use it.
To cook a pumpkin, you need to slice it properly. Take a large knife and slice it in half. Put each half, cut side down, on a separate baking sheet. Toss a little water on the pans, and bake for roughly an hour at 350 degrees.
Learn to enjoy brussels sprouts. Not many people enjoy brussels sprouts if they are cooked in the traditional manner of boiling them. Sprouts can be delicious if you try different methods of cooking, such as roasting them with carrots and parsnips for a delicious side dish. They are delicious if pan-fried with bacon. These cooking methods give them a nutty flavor. Always choose small brussels sprouts, as the larger ones tend to be very bitter.
Use fresh products if available. Nothing packs the punch in cooking like the taste of fresh ingredients. Vegetables, meats and fruits all contain vibrant, savory and wholesome flavors that can be severely diminished by processing and canning or packaging. When cooked properly, fresh ingredients will make any dish more flavorful.
You can cut the fat in your cooking by following a few simple steps. You should invest in good non stick cook ware so you do not have to use as much shortening or oil when you are cooking in the pans. Also measure the shortening that you are going to use, people tend to use too much.
When shopping for meat, always get the freshest cuts available. If you are shopping for meat at the butcher shop the meat is being fresh cut or ground. However, when shopping at the grocery store try to find out when the store typically cuts meat for the day and try to arrive near that time. Otherwise ask at the meat counter for a fresh cut or grind if you do not know the time of the last cut.
Mixing up the menu can help a picky eater want to eat. Who can resist food on green food night? How can a kid resist when he came up with the theme? Make a list of menu ideas and start cooking. Your whole family will love it. Continue reading other articles such as this one, so that you can learn all you can about cooking. How To Improve Your Resilience And Take Back Control Of Your Life After Failure is available on Online Health and Life Coach Fabrizio Fusco We should think of our life as an infinite journey without destination. You take steps in one direction. Or another. Or another. Sometimes you get lost along the way and fall down. Then you start again. However, it may also happen that you fall down and you feel like you don't have the strength to get back up. The reason why you're not doing well in life If I told you to create a list of reasons why you're not doing good, how would this list look like? Probably you would mention, the economic crisis, the taxes, the government, a corrupted society, your parents or friends that don't support your vision, the weather, and so on. They are all good reasons, are they? But, what if I told you, you got it all wrong? Let me tell this: society steals our dreams because we allow it, because we face the world as victims, not as warriors. Now, change the rules. Don't focus on others, focus on yourself. Don't focus on the problem, focus on the solution. It's not what happens; it's how you react to what happens that changes everything. So, now, consider this shift: remove everything from your list and put on it only one thing: Yourself. That's right it's all on you. “Some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all-in which case, you fail by default.” – J. K. Rowling “If you want something you've never had you must be willing to do something you've never done.” – Thomas Jefferson “You can choose courage or you can choose comfort. You cannot have both. You get from this life what you have the courage to ask for.” -- Brenè Brown Awake to the truth that reality is an illusion As we know, our brain has the ability to represent what happens in the world. However, this internal representation isn't precisely what happens because of the filtering and personalization of the brain. We develop beliefs; in other words, something we accept as true. Everyone creates its own reality. What is reality then? What is the truth? The Toltec civilization used to say that everything is an illusion. Everyone creates their own mental version of the world as if everyone was dreaming a different dream. Nothing is true, only love is true. The rest is a creation of the mind and the ego. Now, imagine you could awake and find out that everything you believed to be true about life and the world is actually only a creation of the human mind (a dream as the Toltec affirmed). You discover that you were “domesticated”, you were taught the dream of your life by the people that were there ahead of you. So, now that you're aware of this process you can break free of the domestication. You can begin to dream your own dream, focusing your attention on discovering what YOU believe to be true. [img]http://3wnwft2a77e36rfkz39dows1.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/FF-Dec-02-b.jpg How to improve your resilience and take back control of your life 1. Look inside of you Think of an orange. When you squeeze it orange juice comes out. Why? Because that's what is inside the orange. Now take a look at yourself. When life squeezes you what comes out? Anger, hatred, depression… Why? We say people or situations made us feel that way, it's all because of them. But actually, just like the orange, those feelings came out because they were already inside of you. If you want to stop suffering because of negative feelings, you have to look inside of you and change your perspective. Now, when life squeezes you, the only things that come out are understanding and love. 2. Focus on what you can control There are a lot of things in life that you can't control. So, just let them go. You are not going to change them. One thing you can certainly control: yourself. What do you think it's easier? Changing 1000 things in the external world or changing just yourself? Consider this example from Jim Rohn: There are two salesmen and a storm outside. The 1st salesman says:
Wow what a storm. With weather like this they can't expect us to go out and make sales. He stays home. The 2nd salesman says:
WOW. What a storm. With weather like this what a great day to go out and make sales! Everyone will be home... Including the other salesmen. 3. Understand your “Why” Every single person on the planet knows what they do. Some know how they do it. But very few people know why they do it. And by why I don't mean making money. That's a result. By why I mean what's their purpose, their cause. Life will knock you down many times. That's when people give up. But you have to let reason get you back up. If you have clarity of values, you still understand why you are there. If you know your purpose, if you know why you're doing it then you'll be able to pick yourself up every single day. 4. Improve your resilience If you want to improve and get better in life, then failure is inevitable. When you fail try again and again and again. Work on improving your resilience. Resilience is that ineffable quality that allows you to come back stronger than ever after a failure. All that matters is that you are going to get up. It matters how you're going to finish. Are you going to finish strong? Take back control of your life It's not what happens that determines the quality of your life. And that's because what happens, happens to about everybody. It's no different. Rather it's how you react that changes everything. In my FREE e-book "Love your life" I explain just that: how to get out of a negative spiral and start living a life that honors who you are. So, now it's your choice. It's all on you. What are you gonna do? See additional info on: The health and life coach Fabrizio Fusco

It's a Tilly & The Buttons <a href="http://shop.tillyandthebuttons.com/products/martha" target="_blank">Martha dress</a> in rather lovely Chinoiserie-style stretch velvet. </p><br /> <p><img src="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Martha-pattern.png" alt="martha-pattern" width="457" height="247" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11370" srcset="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Martha-pattern.png 457w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Martha-pattern-300x162.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 457px) 100vw, 457px" /></p><br /> <p><a href="http://shop.tillyandthebuttons.com/products/martha" target="_blank">Martha</a> is a swinging 70s-inspired frock with a high mandarin collar, princess-seamed bodice, fluted sleeves and a twirly panelled skirt. I think Tilly gave me the pattern as a thanks for pattern testing and I knew I wanted to make it up in velvet for winter. I don't think the sample garments actually do this pattern much justice, though it looks like I was inspired by the large floral print of the knee-length view. I sewed the mini length and bell sleeve options of the powder blue view.</p><br /> <p><img src="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-4.jpg" alt="martha-dress-4" width="533" height="800" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11360" srcset="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-4.jpg 533w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-4-200x300.jpg 200w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-4-473x710.jpg 473w" sizes="(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px" /></p><br /> <p>The fabric is <a href="https://www.minervacrafts.com/shop/fabric/dress-fabrics/ph-5635-floral-print-stretch-velour-dress-fabric-black-per-metre" target="_blank">this cotton-mix stretch velvet</a> from Minerva. It's my first time sewing a fabric with any sort of pile, but it was a very gentle introduction and I was generally able to treat it like any other knit. I just made super sure to cut all the pieces in the same direction in case the pile showed up differently after it was sewn. (The skirt pieces are meant to be cut on the bias if you're using a woven, but I cut them on grain.) </p><br /> <p><img src="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-7.jpg" alt="martha-dress-7" width="534" height="800" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11363" srcset="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-7.jpg 534w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-7-200x300.jpg 200w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-7-474x710.jpg 474w" sizes="(max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px" /></p><br /> <p>There are a lot of seams but it's still a pretty fast sew, especially as I used the overlocker for all the construction – and as you can see, I made no effort to pattern-match this large scale print. I pressed with a warm heat on the reverse, avoiding pressing the right side of the velvet. I took the time to handsew the hem and slipstitch the inner neckband down because I thought it'd look prettier than topstitching. The hand-stitches sink right into the pile, appearing satisfyingly invisible.</p><br /> <p><img src="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-6.jpg" alt="martha-dress-6" width="800" height="533" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11362" srcset="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-6.jpg 800w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-6-300x200.jpg 300w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-6-768x512.jpg 768w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-6-630x420.jpg 630w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-6-624x416.jpg 624w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p><br /> <p>There are some neck facing pieces in the pattern that I couldn't really see a use for, since the collar fully encloses the raw neckline, so I left them off. Despite using a stretch, I still inserted a short invisible zip into the back because it'd be tricky to get the funnel neck over my head without distorting it.</p><br /> <p><img src="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-3.jpg" alt="martha-dress-3" width="533" height="800" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11359" srcset="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-3.jpg 533w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-3-200x300.jpg 200w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-3-473x710.jpg 473w" sizes="(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px" /></p><br /> <p>Fit-wise, I cut a straight 4 but took in the side seams at the waist quite a bit as I sewed it up, probably because the stretch makes it more forgiving. I sewed clear elastic into the waist seam to prevent it growing out over time. I also tweaked the sleeve cap to remove the excess ease because I wasn't keen on the puffed-up look. Next time I'll cut a size smaller in the shoulders as they are a bit too wide. (n.b. the rippling in the upper back in the pic above is because I didn't realise the zip tape was stuck up in my bra band…)</p><br /> <p><img src="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-1.jpg" alt="martha-dress-1" width="533" height="799" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-11357" srcset="http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-1.jpg 533w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-1-200x300.jpg 200w, http://whatkatiesews.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Martha-dress-1-474x710.jpg 474w" sizes="(max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px" /></p><br /> <p>After finishing this I wondered if I could repurpose it for daytime too: it's definitely the type of dress I'd want to wear to work as it's so cosy and comfy. I might try it out in ponte, ribbing or French terry sometime for a more casual version.</p><br /> <div class="crp_related "><h3>Related posts</h3><div class="related-posts"><div class="related-post"><a href="http://whatkatiesews.net/marigold-in-bloom/" ><div class="crp_title">Marigold in bloom</div></a></div><div class="related-post"><a href="http://whatkatiesews.net/silk-dove/" ><div class="crp_title">Silk Dove</div></a></div><div class="related-post"><a href="http://whatkatiesews.net/trompe-loeil/" ><div class="crp_title">Trompe-l'oeil</div></a></div></div><div class="crp_clear"></div></div>
